Laparoscopic sterilisation, tubal ligation

PRICES FROM 1700 EUR - Complete price list here »

Laparoscopic sterilisation is a permanent method of contraception, pregnancy is then possible only by assisted reproduction methods (IVF).

Appointments for laparoscopic sterilisation are usually available within 4-8 weeks. Procedures are not performed during menstruation cycle, however spotting is not a problem. Optimal timing can be achieved with single-phase hormonal contraception without omission or gestagen preparation.

HOW TO START TREATMENT WITH US?

  • 1. First contact our clinic by email, phone or arrange a video conference.
  • 2. Email the required documentation.
  • 3. We will suggest an operation and discuss the date options.
  • 4. You will travel to the Czech Republic for your surgery.

Laparoscopy is one of the so-called minimally invasive techniques that are preferred today. The postoperative course is significantly better tolerated after these techniques and the recovery time is also significantly shorter. The whole surgical procedure takes about 20 - 60 minutes depending on the technical difficulty.

You will be treated by one of the following doctors:

The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia with intubation. The abdominal cavity is filled with CO2 gas, and then a laparoscope (an optical device that allows a view of the small pelvis and abdominal cavity) is inserted through the abdominal wall. It is necessary to make another 2-3 small skin incisions to introduce other surgical instruments into the abdominal cavity.

Laparoscopic sterilisation is performed by severing or clipping the fallopian tubes (salpingectomy). It is a small, laparoscopic, minimally invasive surgical procedure performed as a day care procedure with discharge the morning after the procedure. Within a few days, it is possible for a woman to return to normal life.

Sterilisation in the Czech Republic is newly regulated by Act No. 373/2011 Coll., on specific health services.

The following conditions must be fulfilled before sterilisation:

  • Minimum age 21 years
  • Legal capacity
  • Self-signed application form
  • Instructions to the patient about the procedure, its consequences, risks, etc. The patient confirms the instructions by signing
  • A 14-day cooling-off period follows
  • After 14 days, the applicant gives consent by signing immediately before the procedure

PREPARATION BEFORE LAPAROSCOPY

Start dietary preparation for laparoscopy two days before the surgery. Drink about 2-3 liters of fluids a day. The second day before the procedure, consume a rather mushy, easily digestible diet. The day before the procedure, have your last meal at noon - pure broth is preferable. You can drink until midnight. Then do not eat or drink anything. Also, don't smoke. By following these guidelines, you can avoid complications during and after the procedure.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER LAPAROSCOPY?

Patients usually feel mild pain or pressure in the lower abdomen, which subsides within a few days. A "popping" sensation when touched in the supraclavicular fossa is also typical. This is caused by gas that is absorbed from the abdominal cavity during the operation. Nausea may occur but usually subsides within a few hours.

Although complications after laparoscopy are rare, you should contact your doctor in case of excessive bleeding or if you experience symptoms of infection, such as convulsions, fever, chills, and so on, after discharge. But always contact our clinic first so that we can advise you on how to deal with the situation.

INSTRUCTIONS AFTER LAPAROSCOPY

After the procedure, disinfect the surgical wounds twice a day and inject low molecular weight heparin subcutaneously (into the skin fold on the abdomen) every 24 hours for at least 5 days after surgery. Please follow a strict resting regime for the first 5 days after surgery. Your stitches will be removed during a check-up 7-10 days after the procedure. We recommend taking it easy for 2 weeks after the procedure. Avoid physical exertion such as heavy lifting, sexual intercourse, or sports activities. It's also advisable to only take showers and avoid bathing.
